Tip 1: Stay safe on the roadways by sleeping enough. Less than six hours of sleep triples your risk for a crash.

Tip 2: If you're an older adult, stay social. Studies show social activities — including volunteering, joining a group or visiting a friend's house — keep your mind sharp as you get older.

Tip 3: Work walnuts into your diet. Nuts, especially walnuts, may be good for your heart if they replace unhealthy fats in your diet. Sprinkle unsalted walnuts and fruit on oatmeal or toss walnuts with leafy greens, like a spinach salad.

Tip 4: Be sure to stretch after working out. Stretches keep your muscles from getting tight after walking, biking and other exercises. Hold the stretch for 10 to 30 seconds, then relax and repeat at least four times.

Tip 5: Enjoy the simple things. Make a list and regularly engage in these interests, whether reading a book or gazing at a spider's web.
