Nasacort: FDA Approved for Over-the-Counter Use is Launching As Early As February

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved Nasacort Allergy 24HR for the over-the-counter treatment of nasal allergy symptoms. The nasal spray will be available for purchase over-the-counter in its original, full prescription strength starting in the spring of 2014; the product will be available on shelves as early as February 2014.

Nasacort Allergy 24HR spray is the first and only medication in its class (glucocorticoids) to be made available without a prescription. The nasal spray is labeled for use in adults and children 2 years of age and older. With millions of Americans suffering from seasonal and year-round nasal allergies annually, “Nasacort and nasal sprays in the same medication class are considered the most effective treatment for hay fever and other upper respiratory allergies,” according to the press release Sanofi released in October 2013. The availability of a new nasal spray for treating nasal allergy symptoms will give consumers another option when trying to decide which product to use to relieve their nasal allergy symptoms.
