Health Tip: Is Makeup with Sunscreen Enough?

If you have diabetes, it’s important to be aware of the potential serious skin issues. You should use sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher to prevent sunburn particularly on your lower extremities such as your feet.

It’s easy to assume that wearing makeup that contains sunscreen is enough sun protection for your face. Not so, says Josh Zeichner, MD, director of cosmetic and clinical research in the dermatology department in Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York City. “You do not put makeup everywhere, and you may not be applying enough to give the level of protection it says you are getting on the bottle,” says Zeichner. “Use sunscreen before you apply your makeup to be safe.”
