Corns - Treatment

Goals of treatment are to provide symptomatic relief and to remove the corn/callus.

OVER THE COUNTER PRODUCTS

Salicylic Acid (0.5% - 40%)
EXAMPLES:
- Dr. Scholl’s Liquid Corn/Callus remover, Dr. Scholl’s Medicated Ultra-Thin Corn Remover Disks
FORMS:
- Solution, Plasters, Medicated Pads

General Guidelines for Treating Corns and Calluses with Salicylic Acid (12-17.6%) in Solution
- Soak the affected skin area in warm water for 5 minutes.
- Gently wash affected skin area and dry.
- Apply one drop at a time to completely cover each corn/callus.
- Let each drop dry first before adding the next drop.
- For HARD CORNS: Apply solution 1x to 2x per day for 3 to 6 days.
- For SOFT CORNS: Apply solution 1x to 2x per day for 14 days.

General Guidelines for Treating Corns and Calluses with Salicylic Acid in Plasters/Pads

- Soak the affected skin area in warm water for 5 minutes.
- Gently wash affected skin area and dry.
- PLASTERS: Cut plaster to fit affected skin area, apply to skin, and cover with adhesive occlusive tape.
- MEDICATED PADS: Select appropriate sized disk, apply disk with sticky side to skin, and cover disk with pad.
- Repeat steps every 8 hours as needed for up to 2 weeks.

Mechanical Removal of Corns/Calluses with metal nail filers or pumice stone

EXAMPLES:

PLEASE SEE YOUR DOCTOR IF YOU HAVE:
- Diabetes
- A history of rheumatoid arthritis
- Any medical condition that cause numbness or poor blood circulation
- Pus oozing out from the corn/callus
- Severe pain
- The corn/callus even after 2 weeks of treatment with over-the-counter products
