Back Pain - Causes

Back pain is the pain you may feel in your lower back, middle back, or upper back. Almost everyone has had back pain at some point in their lives. It is one of the main reasons why people miss work.
Low back pain can be classified into three categories based on the duration of symptoms:
Acute back pain
- Low back pain that is acute lasts for less than 1 month.
Subacute
- Low back pain that is subacute lasts between 1 month to 3 months.
Chronic
- Low back pain that is chronic lasts for more than 3 months.

There are many causes of back pain:
Strain to the back
- A strain occurs when either a muscle or a tendon (the tough tissue that connects your muscles to a bone) is stretched or torn. You can get a back strain if you twist or pull a muscle or tendon located in your back. For example, if you bend your back when lifting heavy boxes, you can easily pull a muscle and get back pain as a result.
Strains can also develop over time. For example, you can also get a back strain if you move the muscles or the tendons located in your back over and over again.
Injury  to or Wearing out of  the Intervertebral Disks
- Intervertebral disks are the flat and round disks that sit between the bones in your back. When there is a tear to these disks, you may experience back pain. In addition, the intervertebral disks may slip out of place and press against a nerve. They may also wear out so that the bones that they used to cushion are now rubbing against each other. These two incidences may result in back pain.
Medical conditions
- Medical conditions such as osteoporosis, scoliosis, and cancer can cause back pain.
