Premenstrual Syndrome - Diagnosis

Your doctor will ask you to share some of the physical or mood changes that you have been going through to diagnose PMS. Therefore, it may be helpful to keep a dairy of all the symptoms that you have experienced in the last few months or a symptom chart for several weeks. It will be helpful to include the severity of each symptom as well. Use the scoring criteria below:

Severity scoring for each symptom

0 = No symptom
1= Minimal or slightly apparent to you
2 = Moderate, awareness of symptom but does not affect your daily routine
3 = A lot, continuously bothered by the symptom and/or symptoms interferes with your daily routine
4 = Severe, symptom is overwhelming and/or unable to carry out your daily routine

Your doctor will also go over your medical history to see if you have any conditions with symptoms similar to that of PMS.
