Hemorrhoids - Causes

Hemorrhoids occur when the blood vessels in the lower part of your rectum (the end of your large intestines) or anus (the opening where stool leaves your body) are swollen. These blood vessels normally swell up when there is a lot of pressure placed on them. For example, constipation or going into labor can lead to straining and ultimately increase pressure on the veins.
