Snoring - Risk-Factor

Having the following factors may indicate a higher incidence of snoring:
- Being male (anatomical differences in upper airway)
- Over weight (bulky throat tissue that narrows the passage of air)
- Older age (looser throat and tongue muscles)
- Anatomical variations/deformities (deviated septum, nasal polyps, longer soft palate/uvula)
- Certain illnesses and/or medications that may increase the incidence of snoring, such as: allergies, sinusitis, nasal tumors, and underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism), etc.
- Consuming alcohol prior to sleeping, smoking, menopause, family history, etc.
