Corneal Edema - Risk-Factor

You are at in increased risk of getting corneal edema if you:


- Have Fuch’s Dystrophy, a hereditary disorder in which the number of cells responsible for pumping fluid from the cornea decreases over time. This disorder affects more women than men and those who are older than 50.  The cause of this disorder is currently not known.
- Wear contact lens for long periods of time 
- Wear ill-fitted contact lens
- Have participated in eye surgery that may have damaged the cornea
- Had an eye infection or eye inflammation that may have damaged the cornea
- Had a trauma to the eye
