Mouth Odor - Treatment

There are some over-the-counter products that can temporarily get rid of the bad breath.

Alcohol-free Mouthwashes

Look for a mouthwash that contains ingredients such as Zinc Chloride and Chlorine Dioxide to prevent mouth odor. Ingredients with Cetylpyridinium Chloride or Chlorhexidine can be used to prevent plague (a thin film on your teeth that is covered with bacteria) and gingivitis (inflammation of the gums). You should also use a mouthwash that is stamped with the ADA Seal of Acceptance. This stamp assures you that the mouthwash you are purchasing meets the safety and effectiveness criteria set up by the US Foods and Drugs Administration.

Toothpastes
- Brush your teeth at least 2x per day. Toothpastes with ingredients such as Cetylpyridinium Chloride or Chlorhexidine can plague and gingivitis. You should also look for toothpaste that is stamped with the ADA Seal of Acceptance. This stamp assures you that the toothpaste you are purchasing meets the safety and effectiveness criteria set up by the US Foods and Drugs Administration.
