Diaper Rash- Cause(s)

Though diaper rash can be quite alarming for many new parents, it is a very common condition that affects babies. A diaper rash is characterized by bright red skin confined mostly to the diaper area and tender to the touch. Diaper rash can be caused by a number of reasons:

Tight Diapers
- Diapers that are too tight can rub against the skin.
Wet or soiled diapers
- Wet or soiled diapers provide an ideal environment for a kind of yeast called Candida to grow out of control. One of the symptoms of a yeast infection is getting a diaper rash.
Antibiotics
- When your baby is taking antibiotics, these antibiotics can kill both good and bad bacteria. Without good bacteria, a kind of yeast called Candida can grow out of control.  One of the symptoms of a yeast infection is getting a diaper rash.
Soap
- Traces of soap left behind in cloth diapers can irritate the skin.
New foods
- When your baby starts eating new foods (including solid foods) or has an allergy to new foods, a diaper rash may develop.
