Cough - Symptoms

Sometimes, you can cough up mucus. This is known as a productive cough. The color or smell of the mucus may indicate what illness you have. For example:

--Mucus that is clear is generally associated with bronchitis.

--Mucus that has a bad-smelling odor or is pus-like may be indicative of a bacterial infection.

--Mucus that contains blood may indicate a serious condition that requires immediate medical attention.


People who cough a lot know how physically exhausting it can be. People with the cough may also suffer from:

-Inability to sleep at night

-Fatigue

-Muscle pain

-Chest pain

-Sweating

-Involuntary leakage of urine.
