Corneal Edema- Cause(s)

The cornea, located in the front of the eye, is made up of thin layers of tissue that focuses light into the back of the eye so that you can see a clear image. The cornea normally has fluid and it must continually remove this fluid in order to function properly. There is a single layer of cells that is responsible for clearing this fluid from the cornea. However, when these cells are damaged, fluid will build up within the cornea. This ultimately results in corneal edema or swelling of the cornea.
