Yeast is a fungus that normally lives in the vagina in small numbers, but when too many of them are growing in the vagina, the condition becomes into a vaginal yeast infection (or vulvovaginal candidiasis). Be aware that there are other conditions (e.g. bacterial vaginosis and trichomoniasis) with vaginal symptoms similar to a vaginal yeast infection that may mislead you to think that you have a yeast infection when it’s really something else.
