Hemorrhoids occur when the blood vessels in the lower part of your rectum (the end of your large intestines) or anus (the opening where stool leaves your body) are swollen. People with hemorrhoids may experience symptoms such as itching or pain in the anal area. Most cases of hemorrhoids are not too serious and can be treated with over-the-counter products and self-care measures.
